Aico Easi-Fit Base Compatibility Guide
Which Aico Alarms Use the Easi-Fit Base?
A large number of Aico mains-powered smoke and heat alarms use the universal Easi-Fit base system.
One of the biggest benefits of the Aico system is that the Easi-Fit base has remained compatible across multiple generations of alarms. This can make replacing an expired or discontinued Aico alarm considerably easier.
Ei140 / Ei140RC Series
Common models include:
-
Ei141 / Ei141RC – Ionisation Smoke Alarm
-
Ei144 / Ei144RC – Heat Alarm
-
Ei146 / Ei146RC – Optical Smoke Alarm
These are some of the most commonly encountered older Aico alarms in UK properties.
Ei140e Series
The newer 140e range also uses the Easi-Fit base, including:
-
Ei141e – Ionisation Smoke Alarm
-
Ei144e – Heat Alarm
-
Ei146e – Optical Smoke Alarm
Ei160 / Ei160RC Series
The older 160 and 160RC ranges also use the Easi-Fit system.
Common models include:
-
Ei161 / Ei161RC – Ionisation Smoke Alarm
-
Ei164 / Ei164RC – Heat Alarm
-
Ei166 / Ei166RC – Optical Smoke Alarm
These alarms are commonly found in older Aico installations and can often be replaced using newer Easi-Fit compatible alarms without having to replace the existing standard Easi-Fit base.
Ei160e Series
The later 160e Series also uses the Easi-Fit system:
-
Ei161e – Ionisation Smoke Alarm
-
Ei164e – Heat Alarm
-
Ei166e – Optical Smoke Alarm
The 160e Series uses rechargeable lithium cell backup and was developed from the previous 160RC range.
Ei2110 / Ei2110e Multi-Sensor Alarms
The mains-powered Ei2110 and Ei2110e Multi-Sensor Fire Alarms also use the Easi-Fit system.
3000 Series
The Aico 3000 Series uses Easi-Fit bases, including:
-
Ei3014 – Heat Alarm
-
Ei3016 – Optical Smoke Alarm
-
Ei3018 – Carbon Monoxide Alarm
-
Ei3024 – Multi-Sensor Fire Alarm
-
Ei3028 – Multi-Sensor Heat & Carbon Monoxide Alarm
-
Ei3030 – Multi-Sensor Fire & Carbon Monoxide Alarm
The Important Point About Easi-Fit Compatibility
Aico states that all of its mains-powered smoke and heat alarms are compatible with Easi-Fit bases.
This backwards compatibility is particularly useful when an older alarm reaches its replacement date.
For example, if a property has an older Ei166RC optical smoke alarm installed on a standard Easi-Fit base, moving to an appropriate newer Easi-Fit alarm does not necessarily require the existing base to be removed and rewired.
However, base compatibility and alarm suitability are not the same thing.
Just because two alarms fit the same Easi-Fit base does not mean one is automatically the correct replacement for the other. Sensor type, room location, interconnection method and the requirements of the installation must still be considered.
Replacing These Alarms With the Aico 3000 Series
If your existing alarm is one of the Ei140, Ei140RC, Ei140e, Ei160, Ei160RC or Ei160e models listed above, a compatible replacement from the Aico 3000 Series will fit the existing standard Easi-Fit base.
This means that in many cases you can upgrade an older or expired Aico alarm to a newer 3000 Series alarm without needing to replace the existing Easi-Fit base.
For example:
-
Ei144 / Ei144RC / Ei144e / Ei164 / Ei164RC / Ei164e – Heat alarms
-
Ei146 / Ei146RC / Ei146e / Ei166 / Ei166RC / Ei166e – Optical smoke alarms
-
Ei141 / Ei141RC / Ei141e / Ei161 / Ei161RC / Ei161e – Ionisation smoke alarms
A suitable 3000 Series replacement is physically compatible with the existing Easi-Fit base.
However, the correct 3000 Series model should still be selected for the required type of detection and location. Base compatibility does not mean that every 3000 Series alarm is an appropriate functional replacement for every older alarm.
