Used Alarm Safety, Testing & Installation
Important safety information for used smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms, detector heads, bases, RF modules, controllers and associated fire detection equipment.
Recircuit Resale supplies both new and used stock to trade customers and the public. This notice explains our pre-sale checks and the checks needed at the installation. It does not replace the manufacturer's instructions, our product descriptions or your legal rights.
1. Condition and what is supplied
The condition stated in the product listing and selected variant applies to your purchase. Used equipment has been previously owned or installed and may have cosmetic wear. Check the model, condition, quantity, included bases, batteries and accessories before ordering. New, unused and new-other stock is identified separately. Material known defects, missing parts and limitations must be disclosed in the listing; a general reference to used condition does not excuse undisclosed faults or unsafe goods.
2. Pre-sale inspection and testing
Our used alarms are inspected and functionally checked before dispatch. Our alarm testing information explains the scope of these checks. Testing assesses the functions actually checked, under the conditions present at that time. The checks appropriate to an alarm, RF module, controller or passive base differ; ask us before purchase if you need confirmation of a particular function or test.
A successful check is not a separate promise of uninterrupted future operation, a specified remaining lifespan, independent certification, sensor calibration or satisfactory operation in every installation. Pre-sale testing does not constitute commissioning of your installed system or reproduce every transport, storage or environmental condition. This does not reduce our obligation to supply safe goods of satisfactory quality, as described and fit for any purpose for which the law requires them to be fit.
3. Replacement dates and remaining life
Where a listing or variant states an expiry or replacement year, this refers to the manufacturer's replacement information for the supplied item. Check the complete date on the actual label, including the month where shown. A year-only listing does not mean the item can be used until 31 December; contact us before ordering if you require a particular minimum remaining period.
Buying, reinstalling or fitting a new base does not restart an alarm's service life. Do not assume ten further years from installation, including for unused older stock. Replace the device by its manufacturer's specified replacement date, or sooner if it fails a check, develops a fault or the manufacturer requires replacement. A date in the future is not a guarantee that the unit will remain fault-free until then. Any description or express commitment we give about age or replacement date remains binding.
4. Compatibility and choosing the right equipment
Before ordering, check the exact model, detection type, power supply, base, wired or wireless interconnection and any required accessories against the manufacturer's instructions. For panel-based systems, also check the panel, protocol, software and configuration. Physical fit, matching branding or a similar model number alone is insufficient to confirm compatibility.
Seek advice from a competent installer or the manufacturer if unsure. Tell us about any particular purpose or compatibility requirement you need us to assess before purchase. Nothing here removes our responsibility for the accuracy of our descriptions, representations or advice, or any suitability commitment we make.
5. Installation and checks before use
Inspect equipment on receipt. Do not install or rely on a unit with damage, a fault indication, missing safety-critical parts, an expired replacement date or an unresolved safety recall. Contact us promptly so we can help; reporting promptly is not a condition that removes your statutory remedies.
Installation must follow the instructions for the exact model and applicable requirements. Mains electrical installation and interconnection must be undertaken by a suitably qualified electrician. Battery equipment must be installed by someone competent to follow its instructions; use a competent alarm installer where the equipment, system or premises requires this.
After installation, test each device and the complete interconnection before relying on the system. Where applicable, verify RF pairing or house coding, panel communication, warning accessories and backup power, and complete commissioning and records. Follow the standards relevant to the premises and equipment, including the appropriate part of BS 5839 where applicable. Domestic alarms and commercial panel-based systems have different requirements.
6. Ongoing testing and maintenance
Follow the manufacturer's testing, cleaning, maintenance and replacement schedule for the exact product. Keep instructions available and pass them to the person responsible for the property. Use only manufacturer-approved test methods. Do not improvise tests with flames, household smoke, heat or carbon monoxide. A fault or failed test must be investigated and effective protection restored promptly; do not leave a property relying on faulty equipment.
7. Bundles, guides and the alarm builder
Our bundles, guides and smoke alarm builder help you compare stock and identify options from the information provided. They are not a site survey, fire risk assessment, installation design, commissioning certificate or confirmation that a property complies with fire safety law. Requirements depend on the UK nation, premises, occupancy and system. Have the final selection, coverage, siting and interconnection checked for your property. This does not limit our responsibility for advice or product information we supply.
Buying an individual alarm or bundle does not itself certify the safety of a building. A carbon monoxide alarm is not a substitute for proper installation and servicing of fuel-burning appliances or adequate ventilation.
8. Seller responsibilities and your rights
We remain responsible for complying with the legal duties that apply to us as a seller. Used goods sold to consumers must meet the applicable requirements for safety, satisfactory quality, description and fitness for purpose. Age, price and disclosed condition are relevant to reasonable expectations, but do not remove those duties.
Incorrect installation, incompatible equipment chosen without relying on our advice, improper storage, damage, misuse or lack of maintenance can cause failures. Responsibility depends on the actual cause and applicable law. We do not exclude liability for a defect we are responsible for, inaccurate advice, our breach of contract or negligence by describing equipment as used or tested.
Nothing in this notice excludes or restricts liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, liability under product safety or product liability law that cannot be excluded, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or restricted. Consumer rights, including applicable cancellation, rejection, repair, replacement and refund rights, are unaffected. Business customers retain the rights that apply to their contracts. Purchasing is not a waiver of these protections.
9. Questions, faults and returns
Contact Recircuitresale@gmail.com or use our contact page for questions about testing, condition, dates, compatibility or a suspected fault. Include the model, order number and relevant label photographs where available. Do not delay necessary safety action while waiting for a reply.
Read this notice alongside our terms of service and refund policy. If any wording conflicts with your statutory rights, those rights take priority.
